Tracy the Olympian

Tracy Keith-Matchitt visited West End School today and here are some things she talked about:

-Perseverance made her discover her love of swimming
-Training, determination, commitment and effort are important
-Went to Russia for the world champ in 2015

Personal best records:
56.6sec 100m
26.2sec 50m

"Don't let anyone tell you can't do it"
"No matter how hard it is give it your best, don't give up"
People have told her she won't make it or have been negative and she didn't listen. If she had listened, she wouldn't be going to the 2016 Olympics.

Our Padlet

Finding Out about Mindset

The RESEARCH begins!!! We are listening to videos and Googling what fixed and growth mindset means.
We will share what we learn later on!!

Waiata

(Another cool place for fonts is flaming text thanks to a Room 2 member, I have learnt another new thing today)

We have only just started the new year and our waiata is sounding fantastic, especially for our first day. Have a listen!!

Growth Mindset

Growth Mindset
(This text design website  was shown to me by someone in Room 4, they know who they are!! Thanks for teaching me something new today...Mrs P)

Mrs Pouniu said that she wants Room 2 to develop a growth mindset.

Here are some video's to help you find out what this is!

Think about:
What messages did you get from these videos?
How can this help us in the classroom?
How can this help us in our lives?

Try looking at these Pinterest posts for ideas too!!

Problem solving time!!

Today we were given this problem:

http://www.learning-tree.org.uk/stickpuzzles/stick_puzzles.htm

It was so frustrating for a lot of us because we thought we had solved it, but it wasn't quite right.

Most of us were trying to make 2 little squares but that didn't solve the problem.

In the end, 1 team got it!! Phew, once we  looked at theirs we had an "Ahaaa" moment and realised we needed to think outside of the box.

Welcome to Room 2

Our classroom started as a pile of furniture in one corner.
From there we planned and moved furniture. From there, hearty discussions came about and people had to give good reasons as to why things should be where they are.

This is our final design. We are going to test it out to see if works for us and our learning.

Feel free to come and see our space!!
